The Dyson DC41 Animal vacuum cleaner is the newest addition to the “Dyson Ball” range of vacuums. It boasts a new suction technology called “Radial Root Cyclone” technology and due to improvements such as these, this vacuum cleaner has the most powerful suction at the head.

Just like the other Dysons which use the ball as the steering mechanism, the DC41 is an upright vacuum cleaner and is identical in height to the Dyson DC25.
Being a newer model than DC25 and others in the same range, the DC41 contains some technological refinements.

As mentioned earlier, the DC41 has a new Radial Root Cyclone suction capability which enables it to generate the most suction where it matters most – at the head of the vacuum.

But this is not where the refinements end. The Dyson DC41 has also had some modifications to the ball itself. Unlike the Dc25 and the DC24, the DC41 now contains more components built into the ball housing than the other vacuum cleaners.

This in turn has reduced the clutter within the overall design of the vacuum and as such it has also improved maneuverability and accessibility in awkward spaces.

Another refinement is in the head components of the DC41 vacuum cleaner. This model now has a self-adjustable base plate which automatically contours itself to the surface for optimal contact. This is also one of the main qualities which have improved the suction power.

The Dyson DC41 Animal vacuum is also not just a great all purpose vacuum cleaner, but like the DC24 Animal and DC28 Animal, this particular unit is specifically adept at cleaning pet hair and other mess, hence why it suits pet owners very well.

A lot of people who have used the DC41 have commented on how much quieter it is than other Dyson vacuum cleaners. It almost seems counter-intuitive how this vacuum cleaner can generate the most suction power at the head yet can be the most quiet compared to its cousins. The sound has been described by some as being a lower pitched hum compared to previous models.

Another positive improvement which has been especially appreciated by former owners of the more similar DC25, is that is that the DC41 has got a significantly longer cord length at 35 feet compared to the DC25′s 24 feet or so.

So as we can see there are some marked differences in the DC41 compared to the previous Dyson models.

No doubt some of these new improved features would be well received if they are also added to other models.

So let’s delve deeper and see how this Dyson has evolved over its counter-parts.

The standard tools included with your purchase of the DC41 Animal are the following:

Mini Turbine Head

This tool is invaluable for picking up pet hair and dirt from tight spaces such as cars, stairs and furniture.

Dyson DC23

The Stair Tool

Because the DC41 is an upright vacuum it is rather tricky to clean stairs with. Therefore this is a useful tool which you use on the wand when cleaning stairs.

The Combination Tool

This is a tool which you can use for crevices and as a dusting brush.

What are some more qualities and features of the DC41 vacuum cleaner?

Self Adjusting Head

Dyson DC41 Self Adjusting Head
This a new design feature introduced in this model where the cleaner head adjusts automatically to compensate for the height and type of cleaning surface. This means that the head tool maintains optimal contact with the cleaning surface which in turn prevents air leaks and increases suction power. This design does away with any awkward dials which you need to set when changing the surface type like in other vacuum cleaners.

Hygienic Canister Easy to Empty

As with the others Dyson ball vacuums the DC41 is easy to empty and prevents you from having any contact with the dirt or dust. The canister can easily be emptied via pushing a single button which open the bottom and the dirt simply drops out with the help of gravity.

Lifetime HEPA Filter

As with a lot of the Dyson range, the DC41 also has a washable HEPA filter which has been certified by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. This unit has been tested to expel air which contains up to 150 times less mold and bacteria than normal air which you breath thanks to the washable HEPA filter which helps trap microscopic allergens.

I’ve also included the specs for the other popular comparable models such as the DC25 for a head-to-head comparison because they are both ball vacuums and similar in size. (Please note you can also read my Dyson DC25 Review if you wish)

What the general public thinks of the Dyson DC41

Most people agree that the suction of the Dyson DC41 has exceeded the performance of its predecessors – and let’s face it, most of the Dyson range are renouned for their superior suction.

Both pet owners and people without pets of various floor types unanimously agree that the DC41 sucks dirt impressively from all surface types on which it is unleashed. This is also partly due to the automatic self-adjusting cleaner head, which is very good at catering for varying carpet heights and hardwood floors.

Here’s a comment from one reviewer regarding the sucking ability of the DC41:

My wife vacuumed a 3 foot square area and sucked up enough dog hair and dirt to resemble a small rodent…this from a carpet that is vacuumed twice weekly!!!

Another much appreciated quality (which was long overdue from previous models) is the longer power cord introduced in this model. For instance there is an additional 10 + feet in the cord length of the DC41 compared to the DC25.

The DC41 like most of the Dyson range, has a dust canister which is very easy to empty – the dirt simply falls out of the bottom when you open the hatch. This quality coupled with the significant size increase of the canister compared to the DC25 is another big plus for this model.

There is also a common consensus that the DC41 appears to feel lighter. But when we compare this to the weight of other units in the Dyson ball range we see that it is the heaviest by comparison.

We suspect that this lighter feeling comes from the DC41’s improved maneuverability due to its redesigned ball housing.

Seems that with most Dysons there are some people who think that price for the Dyson DC41 is slightly too steep.
But as with a lot of premium products, the price usually reflects the quality of the unit and its unique functionality. In this case you are paying for the improved suction power and performance plus maneuverability which for some is well worth paying for.

There have also been a few negative remarks about the fact that the cord does not automatically retract. That is, you have to manually wind it around at the back of the vacuum.

Best Place to Buy

Some research on your part is recommended here but I’ve found that buying online is the easiest and most cost effective – especially when you consider that places like Amazon offer free shipping policy and discounts.
